O knihe:

"Surgical oncology can currently be defined as ""bio-surgery"" as it is frequently used in preoperative, intra and postoperative phase together with biological substances like growth factors, cytokines, anti-adhesion and neoangiogenesis inhibiting molecules, thus resulting in a potential reduction of the local recurrences and improvement of survival rates. In fact today the increasing and continuous development of the gene therapy, cellular therapies, immunotherapy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the cancer treatment force surgeons to investigate the role of the radical surgery in the treatment of advanced tumors. Although radical surgery still remains the most effective treatment against tumors in terms of recovery (62% of the total), the combination with other therapies like chemotherapy as adjuvant or neoadjuvant treatment, improves the outcome, especially in the treatment of solid tumors. The future surgical oncology must be performed by surgeons possessing the requisite skills (technical ability, specific base-formation on physiopathology, constant updating) and be based on high technical standards and therapeutic protocols, in order to achieve its main goals: local disease control, reduction of local recurrences, the preservation and improvement of patients' quality of life. This volume is addressed to surgeons, oncologists, internists and to all those that in their clinical practice have to treat tumoral diseases."
